For our project this year, we designed a residential music retreat with a performance hall, situated in the town of Balloch in West Dunbartonshire. The client was the charity Sistema Scotland, they aim to give children from challenging backgrounds a sense of stability and community in an accessible approach to music education.
I chose my site to create a new square and reclaim public space from a car park, the site is embedded in the urban fabric of the town and helps to grow a town centre through the public building. The residential building facilitates the needs of children from all different backgrounds. This is achieved through: accessibility, dynamic social areas, and tailored bedrooms, giving rise to a fun space that can be enjoyed by all.
My scheme focused on integrating music practice with playground design and so I aimed to experiment with my visual style to reflect this.
